Spencer Myer has joined the Musicians Foundation Board of Directors. Mr. Myer was previously a member of the Foundation’s Advisory Council. His artistic contributions to the music community and commitment to helping performers, educators, and composers in times of need make him an ideal addition the the Board.

Spencer Myer is an internationally renowned concert pianist who is a frequent guest artist with numerous orchestras, recital and chamber music series, and music festivals throughout the world. He has collaborated with dozens of celebrated artists, and currently serves on the Piano and Collaborative Piano faculty at the Longy School of Music of Bard College.

Musicians Foundation has added two new members to its Board of Directors – Jenna Manula Linares and Andrew Malloy. Both have joined the Foundation’s leadership to strengthen its ability to reach more musicians in times of need and increase public awareness of the organization.

Jenna has over 10 years’ experience crafting social media, influencer marketing, and digital strategy for indie beauty, CPG, and retail brands, including Drybar, First Aid Beauty, jane iredale, and the Hain Celestial natural portfolio. She is an expert in balancing emotion and human connectivity, brand messaging, and data-driven insights to drive success across platforms, along with how the paid-owned-earned digital ecosystems work together to drive advocacy and brand trial.

Musicians Foundation is an important organization to my family.  My father-in-law has served on the Board of Directors for many years and my husband is an accomplished trombonist.  Although I’m not a musician myself, I’m passionate about music, and dedicated to making sure those who weave the soundtracks of our lives can continue to play.

Andrew recently retired from a forty year career in Los Angeles as a freelance trombonist active in all the major orchestras in the greater Los Angeles area, the movie and television recording studios and as a teacher at several universities in Southern California. He graduated from University of Massachusetts , Amherst with a Bachelor of Music in Music Education and The Juilliard School with a Master of Music in performance.

I am very excited by the opportunity to serve as a member of the Musicians Foundation Board of Directors. During my forty year career as a freelance studio and orchestral trombonist in Los Angeles I had ample opportunities to observe and experience some of the financial and health challenges that musicians and their families experience with frightening regularity. During my career I was also very active in union activities trying to protect and improve wages and benefit conditions for musicians. I feel this experience and knowledge will help me make a worthwhile contribution to the foundation and its mission.

2017 Appeal Letter

The Musicians Foundation recently sent out its 2017 end of year appeals letter written by Cipa and Misha Dichter, two wonderful members of our advisory council. Please see letter below. We are grateful for your continued support!

This fall, the Musicians Foundation was honored by the support of  Rooftop Theatre Collaborative, who generously donated 20% of the proceeds from their October production of the musical “Tick, Tick… BOOM!” to the Foundation.  Rooftop, a non-profit theatre group from Trenton, NJ, donates a fifth of the revenue from every show they produce to charity, and chose the Musicians Foundation for “Tick, Tick… BOOM!” because of its work supporting musicians who struggle through financial hardship.  Jonathan Larson, the writer/composer of “Tick, Tick… BOOM!”, famously lived for years in poverty, waiting tables in New York City as he toiled on his magnum opus, the semi-autobiographical musical “Rent.”  Larson tragically passed away on the evening before the first public performance of “Rent,” at the age of just 35.

On November 9, Jim Petro and Jaci d’Ulisse  presented the Musicians Foundation with a check for $410.00.  Thanks so much to Jim and Jaci for helping us keep American musicians from suffering the types of financial hardships that plagued Jonathan Larson!
