Johnny Vidacovich

Helping a Renowned New Orleans Drummer

As an established drummer in the New Orleans and national music scenes, Johnny Vidacovich has been recognized by OffBeat magazine’s Best of the Beat Awards as “Best Drummer” numerous times and the Big Easy Entertainment Awards. His playing has been praised in DownbeatThe New York Times, and NPR’s Jazz Profiles by Branford Marsalis. He has played with Bobby McFerrin, Stanton Moore, Charlie Hunter, Willy DeVille, Robert Walter and New Orleans musicians Johnny Adams, Professor Longhair, James Booker, Alvin “Red” Tyler, and Mose Allison. Mr. Vidacovich has been a faculty member at Loyola University’s School of Music and has played with Astral project, a modern jazz quartet, since the 1970s.

Requiring oral surgery to deal with periodontal disease not covered by Medicare, Mr. Vidacovich was unable to pay for the procedure. Musicians Foundation helped pay for a substantial percentage of the dental bill, relieving a difficult financial burden that allowed Johnny to continue his artistic pursuits.

“Within a couple of days I received financial assistance! Very generous amount! This took such a burden off of me, and the stress off… I’m very thankful!” -Johnny Vidacovich
